Nutrition

Eating well has become as much of a focus for many competitive runners as training.  The information on nutrition for runners is voluminous and often contradictory.

One of the best places to start are the various writings of Matt Fitzgerald, particularly Racing Weight and The New Rules of Marathon and Half-Marathon Nutrition.  Fitzgerald has also developed Diet Quality Score (DQS) app that can help to develop sound nutritional habits, without relying on counting calories as the basis for nutritional development.

For those interested in counting calories, one reliable and convenient resource is the app, Lose It!

For easy-to-follow and easy-to-access cookbooks for runners, check out Shalene Flangan and Elyse Kopecky, Run Fast. Eat Slow, and Sayago Golub, The Runner’s World Cookbook.  Another great source though not specifically targeted to runners or endurance athletes are any of the various by former New York Times writer Mark Bittman, himself a runner.  A good start in the Bittman portfolio is How to Cook Everthing, The Basics.
